Cinderella chair

The pumpkin turns into a coach and everyday clothes into a ball gown???? Perhaps, but my version features a chair with a story and a new look. My daughter, a budding sewist in her own right got a generous gift from one of our neighbors- (had anyone given me such a gift at 13, I'd be sewing for the queen right now). She received a beautiful Pfaff sewing machine, sewing table (with drop down leaves and all kinds of extensions) and a vintage sewing chair that opens up for storage. (Frankly, despite my own lovely, but small sewing digs) I'm a bit jealous. Ok, not even frankly, just plain ol' jealous. The sewing table and machine are so lovely and can do all kinds of fancy things (she made me a pillow with my name on it- show-off). So, this vintage chair needed a makeover, and ever since my daughter was quite little I have the heavy burden delight of being the go-to-person for "fixing stuff". Don't get me wrong, the chair did not need "fixing",  it was sound and cute, but it's overall design and fabric were a bit worn and dated. So……

side sewing chair- BEFORE, lucky duck on the right (these are the "taken-in-the-basement-after-dark-photos that I think I may have previously mentioned I really shouldn't be taking)
We started by taking the entire chair apart (forgot to take photos) and removing the hundreds of staples and screws that held the chair, fabric and trim together. We chose a nice antique ivory and painted the legs and interior of the seat. Then my daughter chose a very hip, mid-century orange and aqua print for the seat with a coordinating print in the same colors for the corded piping. (The padded part of the seat is hinged at one side and opens to the storage area in the seat.

View from the top. We left off the back and made it a stool instead of a chair. I think the re-upholstery really updates the entire look.
It is in use and is quite cute seated ready and waiting for the luckiest girl in the world to come and sew.
